Chain Maille Designs

I have wanted to go to the Renaissance fair for many years and have been invited, but due ot our work schedules my husband and I were unable. I learned how to make chain maille. Here is a head piece I made years ago. I love making things, and love all types of crafts. My husband and I made our first key chain out of chain maille, and we still have them some where.

This is the top of the head piece that has a veil in the back. We planned on renewing our vows on our 15 year anniversary, but time got away from us. We plan on having a Renaissance Wedding on our 25th anniversary. I had made some slave bracelets out of chain maille and rand across two of them.

Here is the back of the head piece. I used the 4 - 1 for the head piece (around the head)

Basic 4-1 Expansion Instructions:

6 to1 pattern on the left and 4 to 1 pattern on the right
6 TO 1: This pattern is essentially the same, but you start by picking up 6 closed rings (row 1 = 3 rings, row 2 = 1 ring and row 3 = 3 rings). Add triads by inserting the open ring up through the rightmost TWO rings on row 3 and down through the rightmost two on row one. Start to widen by picking up three closed rings with one open ring and inserting up through the first three rings in row 3 (thereby starting rows 4 and 5). Lengthen rows 4 and 5 by picking up one closed ring with one open ring and inserting the open ring up through the last two rings on row 5 and down through the corresponding rings on row 3.
